I realize and accept that, as a linguist, it is my prerogative to analyze language as a descriptivist.The main difference between prescriptivist and descriptivist is how they analyze language. A prescriptivist is very concerned with what is right about a language and how to use it correctly. A descriptivist doesn’t believe that there is a correct way to use a language, as they are more interested in observing how the language is actually used. This thread was dead for 9 months, and only had a handful of posts before that. It was revived specifically for the sake of a descriptivist vs. prescriptivist debate. It should probably be moved to off-topic, though.
